Cathy G | Olympic Gymnast | Personal Trainer

A Body of Acknowledgement

Cathy is both a motor genius and a dynamo; she lived her gymnastic career with passion and hard work at it in a time when all female gymnasts were still in their mid-teens. Within the context of her amateur sport, Cathy was a pro! From a loving and large Italo-Canadian family, who often received my very young daughter into their home, Cathy learned the values of sharing, humility and a good sense of humour. Qualities that go a long way for one who has chosen to help others better themselves and their lives. Big surprises sometimes come in small packages!

Cathy and I met when I needed help with my physique. With professional training, hard work and a modified nutrition regimen, she trained me into a lean 150 lbs. Proper programs such as intense cardio super-setting became a new life routine giving me great confidence and achievement of my goals.

Cathy is now my fitness guru!

At 39, I was 40 pounds heavier than at 30 and this extra weight had taken its toll on my self-esteem. When I met Cathy, my life was forever changed. I knew this woman had what it took to help me out of my rut. It was clear that I could not let this opportunity go by. That decision was the beginning of a new life for me.

Cathy had all the necessary qualities to help me achieve my goal to shed those extra pounds, sculpt my body and most importantly, help me to bring about permanent lifestyle change. Not only is Cathy competent and professional, she is a fantastic motivator. I appreciate that she works around my schedule and creates programs suitable to my capabilities. She made me want to push myself and helped me believe that I could achieve my goal.

After 6 months of training, I have lost 35 pounds, gained muscle definition and am considering training for my first marathon. I have recently been informed that my blood pressure and pulse is that of a professional athlete, something I am very proud of as I know this reduces my risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Sometimes, when I look in the mirror, I have to pinch myself to believe that I have truly accomplished this metamorphosis. I am more positive, energized and confident. For the first time in my life, I consider myself an active person. I have inspired people in my environment to start working out. But what I am most proud of s to see my 3 year old daughter working out next to me. It feels fantastic to know that I am inspiring her to understand the importance of physical activity.

Cathy, you have truly changed my destiny and I am grateful.

I walked into the house with the video in my hand and the kids couldn’t get into their gym suits fast enough. They exercise to the video with their friends! They love it! Now that they are a lot more active, we can go to the ice cream parlour 3 times a week instead of 2!!!

As a Canadian gymnast, Cathy Giancaspro embodies the qualities of an Olympian. Cathy was very determined, hard working and had the ability to perform with a confidence that impressed both the officials and the spectators.

I viewed the video “Learning & Exercise Sing-Along” and tried the program with 4-year old children whom I teach & they were very enthusiastic & co-operative in carrying out the objectives. Since the video combines movement, music, exercise, and nursery rhymes, the children loved it. I believe that it will be a great success among children, teachers, & parents.

I had the privilege to coach Cathy in the pursuit of her dream to participate in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. Cathy was one of Quebec’s great talents in women’s artistic gymnastics. Her physical attributes were definitely an asset from the start, but in my opinion her success is due to her own will, her autonomy, her consistency, her taste for excellence, her boldness to break through new technical frontiers, her self-discipline and her tremendous perseverance. As one of the best gymnasts in the world, Cathy left an inheritance of excellence in Quebec as well as in Canada, which continues today to be a reference in artistic gymnastics. Few coaches have the chance to meet such a personality through their career, such talent, and leadership in her domain. I had that chance!

Cathy is a woman with a big heart and a bigger personality. I have been training with her for seven years now, and I have discovered that with a little motivation I can do anything I set my mind on. She has pushed me to go beyond my limits. Thank you, Cathy.

As a family physician with special interest in Sport Medicine teaching at McGill and Concordia Universities I reviewed Cathy’s workout video. I find it very good and appropriate for the age group. It follows the recommended exercise pattern from the physiological point of view.

i.e. Warm up, and cool down and it contains well balanced exercises involving different muscle groups.

The fast and slow tempo is suitable for the age group and is good for recovery. It also includes non-ballistic stretching which is indicative of Cathy’s experience as an Olympic gymnast.

The music is stimulating and is a great contribution to motivate children to lead a more active lifestyle.

I’ve known Cathy for about two years now and have been enjoying every second of it! (Even though sometimes I wish she would just disappear in the middle of a harsh training session!) Very devoted to her clients and her job, she is always great company. She knows every stretch and every move possible for your training. For her great taste in music, movies, clothes and her contagious smile, she wins my prize for number one trainer!

Thanks for all the great times!

Dear Cathy’s Kids,

I’m trying to write you a letter of appreciation for your wonderful video. But the word’s THANK YOU just can’t express the way we feel. Perhaps a quick history will.

Our daughter Ashley, now 5, was born with Hydrocephaly. Blessed with early detection, super doctors in every field, especially neurosurgery, and a lot of prayers, she is doing wonderfully.

Today our main concerns are her epilepsy and hemiparesis of the right side. We use every resource and idea to help her be the best she can be. Our home is equipped with a small trampoline, home-made balance beam, a large blackboard and lots of love. This is where your video played a key role. It gave us one more tool we could use that could be PLAY and not THERAPY.

When Ashley first viewed the tape at 3, she was mesmerized by Cathy’s gymnastics. She would try to keep up but had difficulty. She couldn’t march on the spot, right hand to left leg was awkward, and overall co-ordination was poor. However, Ashley loved the music and the cute story of Junior. Not one to give up, Ashley played the video over and over until she got it. You should see her now. Even her physiotherapist sees a remarkable improvement.  She can follow the exercises, and more importantly feels good about herself. I know Cathy helped.

Cathy is a STAR in our home. Both my children admire her deeply.

Thank you so much. I love seeing my children having fun and exercising. We look forward to the next video.
